MATCH REPORT Cashen Rover 2-3 Dutch Lions
MATCH REPORT by Mo Awada (Proof read by Don O’Keeffe)
Cashen Rover 2 - 3 Dutch Lions FC
The game got off to a scrappy start with both team finding their feet in the opening 10mins. It was the Lions first ever game and tension was high. The first goal came against the run of play. A good interchange of passes by Cashen Rover sent there forward clean through on goal with only the keeper to beat, he placed the ball into the back of the net and Cashen Rover went 1-0 up. The Lions controlled the game with most of the possession with out really creating any clear cut shots on goal but their pressure paid off when Timid raced clear on the left hand side and played a beautiful cross towards Jabber, with the ball just running away from him, but he had the energy to run after the ball and play it back into the box were Pedro had raced into the box to head the ball into the back of the empty net. The Lions continued to enjoy most of the ball until a long ball forward by Cashen was raced onto by the Cashen forward and Grant came in to stand him up and the forward fell over Grants leg. The referee fairly awarded a penalty kick to Cashen which was put into the back of the net.
The 2nd half started as the 1st ended with the Lions having most of the ball but this time applying more pressure on the Cashen goal, Hamza had a good shot at the far post which was saved by the keeper. Cashen raced clear and a cross shot was saved by the Lions keeper to keep the us in the game, that proved to be the only shot on target from Cashen in the whole of the 2nd half, as the Lions pushed forward a great ball in my Macca was missed by Jabber but Hamza came racing in with a sweet right footed shot that flew past the keeper, 2-2. The lions pushed forward in search of the winning goal which came, Cashen Rover could not handle the consist pressure on their goal and were broken again when Timid played the ball to Danny in the box, he seemed to have so much time, he turned and hit a right footed shot into the back of the net given the keeper no chance. All in all a much deserved win for the Lions on their opening game.

Cashen Rovers Match Report Below
Dutch Lions are a new team formed from the ashes of Wanderers and today was their first ever game. The first half was a workmanlike Cashen performance that produced two goals for the home side. The first was an excellent interchange of passes between Michael Ansah and Chris Brock that saw the latter release Alan Tikerpae to race clear and bury the ball into the back of the net. The second was a penalty awarded when a Lions player, with no attempt to play the ball, stepped into Alan’s path when he was wriggling clear in the box. Alan duly dispatched the penalty to put Rovers in the ascendancy.
Lions got themselves a goal in the first half also when a forward found himself in front of goal but his awful control (which was repeated ad nauseum throughout the game and led to his eventual removal from the side) sent him to beyond the posts and a hopeful poke back into the area was finished well in front of goal.
2-1 at half time was a fair scoreline, reflecting the number of chances that each side had created. The second half was a different story. It is good to see that the spirit of Indian Gymkhana is still at large and with it being Dutch Lions first ever game, they wanted to make sure they won it. Which they went on to do.
They refereed the second half themselves but unfortunately were not really au fait with the rule book. An offside involving three players was overruled to hand them an equaliser. Amos’ run at full pelt past the last line of defence was halted by a blatant obstruction by a stationary defender who stepped across him but play was waved on as ‘Both players were as near to the ball as each other’. Alan Tikerpae met a similar fate when in full flow down the right wing with a similar result and penalty appeals for an upending of Paul Ryan in the box were waved away as his feet constitute the whole of the ball. There were numerous other instances but at the end of the day, you can’t really blame Dutch Lions for wanting to win their first ever game.
Dutch Lions have a number of good players and in Timid McClaren, they have someone who is a cut way above the rest and will cause opposition defences a lot of problems this year. They will be competing in Division Three this season, so we wish them good luck in their first term in the Hendon League.

In Reply to Mo’s Match report a few matters should be cleared up. I personally feel it was an even game. the fact is DLFC created more chances and had more of the ball. I would welcome a re-match perhaps next pre-season? The Rovers have some good lads down there and I personally wish them the best of luck.

In response to the fella that wrote the Cashen Rovers report.
I was at University for 4 years and read numerous match reports in the Student paper. They were so shite it honestly made me wretch. The useless student twats would write in 1 paragraph an entire match (supposedly), and half of the time didn’t mention the f**cking match at all. It was well clever, and comic genius to only talk about the coach trip to and from the game, University stinks, and students are scum of the earth. We’ve got a few in our team and I’ve never liked them, they don’t wash and stuff, and they’ll never shower after a game, my mum calls them vermin.
The point I’m making this. Your report was brilliant. It touched me, I’m at my mates place and did I love it when he read it out and I got a mention, I was a cut above the rest. That’s the sort of thing that will make my old man cry. But!! you are so right, I’ve been telling them for years that I’m really good and their shit but they won’t have it, and I don’t get that?
Seriously, I loved your report, I Like the fact that people are putting in that level of effort. You write really well, I thought Mos report was crap, no disrespect Mo but your rubbish. (Mo I’m having a laugh, you write the reports, they are really good……………………really good.
Comments are the new text messages, you write one thing and people read another, I’m not really arrogant………………..not really. And I love insects, but not spiders, I hate spiders. I love my mum and my dad and all my brothers and sisters but I did throw a live frog once and It’s haunted me for years, It’s little legs sprayed out, almost as if it was doing a skydive, that’s what made it so funny, all the kids had a go. Next time you see a frog, just say hello, that would be nice.
Good luck the Cashen Rovers, here’s my tip, for you for free. Listen to Engelbert Humperdink before you play. Any of his stuff works wonders for my game but for a big game, Raindrops keep falling on my head, that’s the puppy. They say that’s what Muhammad Ali listened to just before he knocked George Foreman on his bot bot………………………Ha!…..bot bot.
Love you
